About flies
Why flies exists: send a file between any two devices, with no upload and nothing stored.
flies sends a file straight from one device to another. No upload, no account, and your file is never stored.
Why it exists
The usual ways to move a file between two devices each have a limitation. AirDrop works between Apple devices and a few recent Android phones, but not with a Windows or Linux computer. Local tools like LocalSend or Snapdrop need both devices on the same network. WeTransfer and similar services route your file through a server that keeps a copy. flies aims to work in all of those situations: any two browsers, on almost any network. The file goes straight between the devices or, when a firewall blocks that path, through an encrypted relay that cannot read it. The server never sees it.
How it works
Two devices connect with a 6-character code, confirm a four-emoji safety code — unless that check is turned off in settings — so each side knows the connection is not being tampered with, and then exchange files and text over an encrypted peer-to-peer channel. The details are on the privacy page.
